On August 7th, 2011 Scott Mefford, owner of Scotty’s Auto Parts in Virginia, IL celebrated 50 years in business.
After graduating from Virginia High School in 1959, Scott worked the summer for McCurdy Ford in Jacksonville then he attended Rankin Trade School in St. Louis to learn the auto body business. After graduating in 1960, Scott worked at DeWitt Olds-Cadillac in Jacksonville from 1960 to 1961. In the summer of 1961 he purchased Dudley’s Garage in Virginia and on August 7th, 1961 opened Scotty’s Body Shop.
In 1972 Scott converted an old corn crib on his farm three miles south of Virginia, into a workshop where he repaired and restored wrecked cars to re-sell. Shortly after moving into this location he re-located Scotty’s Auto Body to the new location, expanding the business to include used cars, repairable vehicles and parts, becoming the business now known as Scotty’s Auto Parts.
Scotty’s Auto Parts has grown from humble beginnings in a corn crib and a trailer converted into an office, setting on a few acres, to a full service yard with a large warehouse, a dismantling garage, and a sales office. In 1992, at the urging of Scott’s son Travis (who joined the business in 1988), Scott installed a satellite based computer system that allowed Scotty’s to locate and sell parts nation wide and throughout Canada. This gave Scottys greater access to parts to meet our customer needs and more opportunity to sell parts. That step has grown into the Pinnacle computer system we now use to inventory and sell parts and upload inventory to many sources on the internet.
Scott will tell you a large part of his success is due to his hard working employees and focus on quality parts. We currently have ten full time staff members to sell, pull, prep and deliver or ship parts where ever needed. Scottys offers extended warranties for additional customer satisfaction. We also offer a wide selection of new replacement parts for those hard to find items.
